The Nami Table is a sculptural statement piece, bringing ceramics to a next level of craftsmanship. The 3,3 meter long table is a design piece that brings movement and life into its surroundings.
Drawing on the spirit of freedom that defines our earlier works like the Wonkies and The Folding Coffee Table, this piece marks a deliberate shift within the studio to embrace more free-form, organic shapes. Named after the Japanese word for "wave," the table is designed to capture a fluid, undulating energy. It is not just a functional object, but a dynamic design that introduces a sense of rolling movement to the surrounding space.
The creation of the Nami Table is a direct conversation between mechanical precision and human artistry.
We begin with our hand-built extrusion machines, utilizing their mechanical force to establish a strong, structured base. Once the foundation is formed, the process shifts entirely to the hands of the maker. The tabletop is carefully sculpted manually by Floris, to create its distinctive wavy feeling. This deliberate human intervention introduces the subtle irregularities that make the final piece feel alive.
To enhance the fluid form of the table, the finish required as much attention as the physical structure. We developed a custom glaze alongside the table itself to complete the vision. The result is a deep Kelp Green finish that reveals subtle bluish undertones, mimicking a watery, natural surface. This complex glaze reacts with the undulating shape of the tabletop, adding rich visual depth and enhancing the feeling of continuous movement across the piece.
